People urged US government to examine the possibility of other bad caused by the compound used in the plastic material. National Research Council of America stated that they have evidence that reinforce Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) findings related effects caused by the compound in the plastic material that is known as phthalates.

Phthalates are chemicals that can make the plastic become soft and flexible and have been used for many years in the production of plastics. This compound is categorized differently than other chemicals such as Biphenyl-A (CPA) in the plastic. CPA itself has been declared safe by the Bureau of Food and Drugs used in the United States if with a certain measure, but they promised to examine the compound this further.

Studies have been conducted and concluded that phthalates give bad influence to development of male reproductive system. Even in certain condition, phthalates can reduce the level of male hormone testosterone. And worse, phthalates can cause cancer.

Phthalates have been used as composition in toys, cosmetics, personal-care products, food package, pharmaceutical and other medical devices, and home cleaning products. In fact, phthalates are also used in sensitive products such as baby toys.
