No one wants to waste time complaining their hosting problems or have to change their web hosting to another one over and over again. Therefore, when choosing a web hosting service, we need to evaluate the hosting company and take several important things into a consideration, including the supports and features to avoid any disadvantage due to the poor web hosting service we’ve selected.

Bandwidth, Disk Space, Speed, Uptime
Bandwidth is one of the most important criteria in selecting a web hosting company. With huge bandwidth provided, you can make sure your website can serve large amount of visitors and handle high volume traffic such as video streaming and downloading. As we know, many hosting companies oversell their plans providing everything “unlimited” at a low price. However you have to realize that it is substantively not unlimited. Different from a dedicated server, a shared web server will share its bandwidth and disk space to every website and account in the server. Please read the terms and conditions as they usually have some sort of restriction. And one more thing, you have to make sure that the company limits the amount of accounts per server or it will be an overload at any time. A low budget hosting should set up only about 300 or 500 accounts per server (depends on server specification) and guarantee 99.9% service uptime. The company should also have fast internet connection, with backbone using OC-12 (622 Mbps) lines or at least OC-3 (155 Mbps) lines.

Operating System, Languages, Databases
You can choose between two types of operating system in accordance with the programming environments you use in the website. A Windows Web Hosting supports such as ASP, JSP, Visual Basic scripts, Cold Fusion, Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL, while Linux/Unix Web Hosting are compatible with PHP, Perl, SSI, Python, CGI and mySQL database. However, the ability to disable Internet Explorer on Windows 7 RC can help Microsoft to prevent European regulator from additional fee of $2.5 billion that has to be paid by Microsoft.

Last January, European Commission (EC) charged Microsoft from violating EC regulation on competition by asserting Internet Explorer on Windows since 1996. For this reason, Microsoft solves it by turning off Internet Explorer on its new Windows 7 operating system.
